Job Description: RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES
A. Be proficient in techniques for extracting high quality DNA from various sample sources (whole blood, cultured cells, blood spotted on filter papers, buccal swabs, and segments of blood bag tubing, etc.)
using different automated DNA extraction workstations.
B. Be proficient in receiving and processing all sample types from hospitals, NMDP, and other institutions.
Be proficient in aliquotting blood and serum samples for storage.
C. Be proficient in the isolation of various cell populations from whole blood.
D. Be proficient in performing PCR/SSP, and PCR/SSOP or SBT methods and troubleshooting.
E. Be proficient in using different models of liquid handler workstations for different testing applications.
F. Be proficient in performing DNA gel electrophoresis.
G. Be proficient in handling oligo probes and primer pairs for proper dilution, storage, and inventory.
Be proficient in making master amplification or sequencing mixture and QC of these reagents.
H. Be proficient in using LABType software.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE Education and Experience
BS in biology or related fields is required.
One year molecular genetics laboratory experience is preferred.
Job Knowledge and Skills Must have a good knowledge of molecular genetics and operation of various equipment used in the laboratory.
Must have a good knowledge of the HLA system.
Must have a comprehensive knowledge of regulatory issues related to laboratory work performance and blood centers.
Must have problem solving skills for technical and personnel issues.
Should have a working knowledge of data processing information reporting and retrieval.
