SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college located in the scenic Southern Tier of New York, the college has approximately 10,000 students annually, and serves over 4,000 full-time and nearly 3,000 part-time students per semester in Liberal Arts, Business & Public Services, Health Sciences, and STEM, programs. SUNY Broome Community College has an immediate opening for an Access Services Librarian. This is a 12-month tenure track position at the rank of Staff Librarian. The Access Services Librarian works under the direction of the Director of the Learning Resources Center to oversee the library’s circulation, interlibrary loan, and reserve services. Assists in the development and enforcement of policies and procedures. Essential duties and responsibilities include: planning, coordinating and overseeing daily circulation operations; serving as backup for the circulation staff as needed; providing professional expertise, policy development, and continuous improvement in the areas of circulation, course reserves, interlibrary loan, building operations, and stack maintenance. Performing copy cataloging and serials maintenance; managing course reserves including interpreting library and copyright policies, and processing of reserve materials; playing a key role in planning, promoting Library collections and services via social media; purchasing and maintaining equipment, book shelving and library furniture; conferring regularly with library staff to plan, coordinate and evaluate services, projects, systems, exchange information and resolve problems; and providing reference assistance as needed. In addition, the Access Services Librarian will hire, train, schedule, and evaluate part-time and full-time staff and student workers.
Minimum requirements include a master’s degree in Library and Information Science program or related field. Desired experience for Staff Librarian includes a minimum of one year experience in an educational setting, public agency or industry. Preference will be given to candidates with staff supervisory skills and experience working with Ex Libris Aleph or ALMA, OCLC Connexion, ProQuest Oasis, Docutek, and ILLiad.
