SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college located in the scenic Southern Tier of New York, the college has approximately 10,000 students annually, and serves over 4,000 full-time and nearly 3,000 part-time students per semester in Liberal Arts, Business & Public Services, Health Sciences, and STEM, programs. An additional 10,000 students are served through the college's community education and non-credit programs.
SUNY Broome Community College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, 10 month, tenure track, Accessibility Specialist in the Accessibility Resources Office. The Accessibility Specialist reports to the Coordinator of the Accessibility Resources Office and performs duties related to and in support of the educational program. He/she works to ensure that provisions of necessary accommodative and supportive services for students with disabilities are available.
The successful candidate shall: be proficient in the administration and interpretation of psycho-educational/diagnostic assessment tools for determination of a specific learning disability or cognitive/achievement levels; have demonstrated teaching skills for students with various disabilities and the ability to engage students; have the proven ability to prescribe appropriate reasonable interventions for the learning needs of students with disabilities; possess sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; be familiar with assistive technology for persons with disabilities and be able to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational or School Psychology, Communication Disorders, or Rehabilitative Counseling required. Three (3) years teaching experience in working with students with disabilities in an educational setting required. Training and experience with the administration of preferred diagnostic instruments, e.g., the Woodcook-Johnson Psycho-Educational batteries (WJ-IV) and interpretation of the score profiles of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scales (WAIS-IV). Salary range is $44,007 to $55,009.
