The National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) is an independent, not-for-profit organization that provides high-quality examinations for the health professions. Protection of the health of the public through state-of-the-art assessment of health professionals is the mission of the NBME, along with a major commitment to research and development in evaluation and measurement. The NBME was founded in 1915 because of the need for a voluntary, nationwide examination that medical licensing authorities could accept as the standard by which to judge candidates for medical licensure. Since that time, it has continued without interruption to provide high-quality examinations for this purpose and has become a model and a resource of international stature in testing methodologies and evaluation in medicine. Although the NBME's mission is centered on assessment of physicians, it encompasses the spectrum of health professionals along the continuum of education, training, and practice and includes research in evaluation as well as development of assessment instruments.
The Center for Advanced Assessment (CAA) at the NBME is currently seeking Measurement Scientist, Senior Measurement Scientist and/or Data Scientist to join its team. CAA is responsible for developing next-generation assessments and conducting psychometric research related to these assessments. Areas of research and development in which CAA is involved include the assessment of professional competencies such as communication skills and teamwork, technology-based assessments including simulations and serious games, and psychometric applications in the education, training, and credentialing of healthcare professionals including foci on construct development, validity issues, complex item-response theory models, and multilevel and structural equation modeling techniques.
CAA is looking for a scholar interested in an exciting and productive research environment that allows for the development of expertise in cutting-edge assessments. This scholar will apply strong critical thinking skills and a working knowledge of best practices to the development of novel assessments of healthcare professionals.
- Plan and execute programs of research aligned with the CAA research agenda that center around the development of novel assessments for healthcare professionals;
- Design studies and conduct analyses to improve test design and development, and scoring and score reporting for medical licensing examinations and related assessment programs;
- Provide psychometric consultation; and
- Contribute to the educational measurement community via professional presentations or publications related to independent or organizational research agendas.
