Responsible for planning and implementing therapeutic recreation programs which will enable each resident to engage in cultural, spiritual, diversional, physical, political, social and intellectual activities within the facility and the community to promote and maintain the resident’s sense of usefulness to self and others, make his or her life more meaningful, stimulate and support the desire to use his or her physical and mental capabilities to the fullest extent and enable the resident to maintain a sense of usefulness and self-respect.
Timely completion of documentation tasks including assessments, progress notes, MDS, discharge summaries and surveys.
Coordinates Therapeutic Recreation Services with other departments seeking input from the interdisciplinary team.
Implement and supervise therapeutic recreation programs by preparing for the program, procuring and directing help (maintenance, nursing staff, volunteers, etc.) in facilitating the program’s function as well as coordinating any transporting of residents to and from the program, and the evaluation of the program outcome afterwards.
Planning and adapting programs to fit resident’s needs, desires and abilities in collaboration with the Director of Therapeutic Recreation.
Procuring equipment and supplies necessary to carry out programs both on and off unit.
Recording program statistics for attendance records, intake, resident cares reports/care plans/ISP’s etc.
Listening to and interpreting resident concerns and needs, suggesting appropriate programs, and communicating such needs and concerns to the Director of Therapeutic Recreation and the interdisciplinary team as appropriate. *
